1931-2017
Rose Morgan Wood, 86, went home to glory on December 11, 2017 in Houston, TX, after a brief hospice stay. Rose was born March 3, 1931 in Lexington, NC, daughter of Roxie and Zimmie Lee Morgan. She was married 61 years, to Ret. USCG Captain George Newell (Woody) Wood, who passed away on April 13, 2012. They lived in NC, FL, VA and on Governors Island, NY during his Coast Guard career, then moving to Houston, TX where George had a 2nd career with Exxon.
Rose is also predeceased by her parents, 4 siblings, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Wood.
Rose is survived by a sister, Iris Jean Martin of Salisbury, NC; brother, J.P. Morgan and wife, Theresa Morgan of High Rock NC; and Pallie Whitfield, sister-in-law and husband Sam of Charlotte, NC.
Other survivors include Rose Madonna Wood, daughter of Charlotte, NC; George Lee Wood, son of Tacoma, WA; Roxanne Wynne, daughter and husband, C. Jai Wynne of Yorktown, VA; Jaison Lee Wynne, grandson and wife, Jessie Wynne of Norfolk, VA; Jonathan Wynne, grandson of Ft. Rucker, AL; Christina Kondo, granddaughter and husband, Dylan Kondo of University Place, WA; Christopher Wood, grandson of Lakewood, WA; Jennifer Wood, granddaughter of Seattle, WA; and 2 great-grandaughters, Audrey and Charlee Kondo.
Rose was a faithful wife and accomplished homemaker, cook and decorator in the many residences she and Woody called home. She was a long-time member of Champions Forest Baptist Church of Houston, TX, teaching adult Sunday School for decades as well as many years of service in their Prayer Room. She loved the Lord Jesus, and was a supporter of many Christian ministries and had a heart for the land of Israel.
The immediate family has honored Rose Wood’s request that she be cremated and there be no public memorial service – “Thou wilt show me the path of life; in They presence is fullness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” Psalm 16:11.
